Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) high targets in the field of collaboration

Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) has set high targets in the field of collaboration, emphasizing both quantity and outcomes. The Department of Planning, Development, Collaboration, and Information Technology and Communication aims for each program to have at least 15 collaborations.

This was stated by the Director of Technology, Information, Communication, and Collaboration, Prof. Slamet Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D., during the Socialization of Collaboration Targets in UNESA, held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Auditorium, 11th Floor, Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya.

He emphasized that UNESA's collaborations should strengthen the implementation of the three pillars of higher education, namely education, research, and community service, as well as the ecosystem of innovation. "In this collaboration, on the one hand, we need to pursue quantity, especially with industry partners and international collaborators, but on the other hand, we also emphasize quality and outcomes," he said.

He further explained that all of this needs to be well-designed, including mapping and even forming research groups for excellence, such as in sports, arts, and disability fields. "Research, as the foundation of innovation, needs to be mapped out, and research groups must be established. Similarly, alumni and foreign lecturers are important for strengthening international collaboration," he added.

On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Sujarwanto., M.Pd., the Director of Labschool UNESA, added that the campus, with the tagline 'Home of Champions,' continues to improve its quality in various aspects, including collaborations, to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI) one to eight.

"Previously, when UNESA was still a public university, we were national champions. But now, we are competing in the League of State-Owned Universities, which is challenging," said the Vice-Rector for Planning and Collaboration, who served in 2018-2022.

He further explained that the KPI of a university consists of the quality of graduates, the quality of lecturers, and the quality of curriculum and learning. One of the ways to achieve this is through quality collaborations, particularly for undergraduate and diploma programs.

"Whether or not a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is acknowledged does not depend on the number of collaborations, but rather on the implementation. Last year, we established 1,434 MoUs and 5,722 PKS (cooperation agreements) with partners from both domestic and international institutions. In total, we reached 7,156 partners. He emphasized that this year's target is to exceed 7,000 collaborations," he emphasized.

The strategy to expand collaborations can be done by utilizing programs such as Community Service (KKN), internships, Teaching and Learning Practice (PLP), campus teaching, and other programs that can be coordinated with local governments, cities, districts, and villages. In addition, an internal KPI league can be organized to motivate and encourage programs to actively collaborate with various government and private partners.

The socialization was attended by the officials from the Department of Planning, Development, Collaboration, and Information Technology and Communication, as well as the Directorate of Technology, Information, Communication, and Collaboration, along with deans, directors, heads of institutions, and vice deans from various faculties within UNESA.
